Ultimate English - Sweet Treats From Yorkshire

I have a bit of a sweet tooth (I can just imagine the gasps of surprise!), so when I was recently offered the opportunity to review some sweet goodies from Ultimate English I naturally jumped at the chance. I was even more excited when I realised these fabulous treats were made just up the road in Harrogate so I get to write about two of my favourite things in one - sugar and Yorkshire.

Ultimate English is the first independently branded range from The Serious Sweet Company, who have been making fudge in Harrogate since as far back as 1843 to counteract the harsh taste of the town's water. The fudge is still hand made, hand scored and hand packed in it's home town today.

The packaging is stunning and demonstrates the premium branding and superior products that Ultimate English is all about. The designs are eye catching and, along with the bombastic product names, remind me of an old-fashioned carnival or something.

I was send three of the fudge flavours to try out. The Simply Marvellous All Butter Fudge was the first one opened and straight away I was hit with the smell of butter when opening the packet. You know when you are baking or something and have to melt butter and it's the most amazing smell? This is that. The butter fudge is made with 16% butter for a rich, smooth texture and is certainly successful in this.

The Totally Luxurious Vanilla and Clotted Cream Fudge was the one I was most looking forward to, having a bit of a soft spot for anything with clotted cream. The flavour of the Madagascan vanilla is strong and a lovely compliment to the creaminess of the fudge, this is top notch stuff.

But it was the Astonishingly Delicious Salt Water Chocolate Truffle Fudge that was the star of the show. The thing is you see, I'm not usually a fan of chocolate fudge. It just seems like a waste of both chocolate and fudge - so much less than the sum of its parts. But this? I just have no words! I think the fact that it was awarded a gold star in the 2014 Great Taste Awards speaks volumes though. I don't know if its the saltwater that balances out the potential sickliness of the chocolate fudge or something else entirely but it is incredible.

I, being a right good 'un, took this lot into work where it went down a treat. So much so that half of yesterday afternoon was spent looking through the list of stockists to see where we could head to to stock up once this lot has run out. As well as wanted to repurchase this merry trio, I definitely want to get my hands on some of the other products in the range which includes such delicious sounding delights as Coconut Ice, Salted Cashew Crunch and Rich Butter Toffee.

If you can track this down or happen to spot it anywhere, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to as much as you can carry!
